Real Flower Confetti

When we got married (over 10 years ago) we wondered beforehand if the vicar would allow us to have confetti thrown outside the church. At the time, it wasn't a problem and our family and friends threw handfuls of paper confetti.

Nowadays however, paper confetti is often frowned upon and sometimes is not allowed. But don't worry! The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company offers a fantastic, completely natural, superior alternative. Using a wide range of flower petals including:
  • Delphinium
  • Hydrangea
  • Rose
  • Skeleton leaves
confettidirect.co.uk have a great, unique product that also solves the problem of paper confetti - flower petals are of course biodegradable.

Wedding Cheese Cake

wedding cheese cakeThe discerning cheese merchants Paxton and Whitfield have come up with an unusual idea for a wedding cake. It's a cheese cake, not an american style cheese cake, but one that is made of layers of cheese such as cheddar, cheshire and specialist regional cheeses such as Yarg from Cornwall.

Decorated with seasonal fruits and nuts these cakes are certainly different and make a change from the more traditional fruit cake covered in Royal icing.

For a completely unique cake why not plonk your very own handmade cake topper on the top too!

Black Meringue Magazine

We were contacted about 3 weeks ago by Blaze Publishing, a magazine publishing house based in Warwickshire. Now you wouldn't know by looking at their website which predominately promotes magazines about shooting and outdoor life but they are soon to publish a new bookazine entitled Black Meringue. This new title is all about alternative weddings and should be available in all WH Smiths shops from late August. Sounds like it could be an interesting read - I love the title.

Blaze were enquiring about us placing an ad within Black Meringue for wedding insurance products. Unfortunately our ad spend for this year had already been budgetted for, so we won't be taking them up on the offer.

Along similar lines, if you're considering or preparing for your own alternative wedding pay a visit to like-minded people who discuss their own weddings at offbeatbride

Weird Wedding Locations

To some to-be weds a church ceremony is just way too mundane and just doesn't cut the mustard. So, for such couples they need a different way of celebrating their wedding day. With more and more venues applying for and obtaining the appropriate legal licence, couples can now get married in the strangest of locations. For example...

In Mid Air

Caroline Hackwood and Justin Bunn got married in mid air on top of an Utterly Butterly air display bi-plane over Rendcomb Airfield nr Cirencester in 2001.

In Freefall

Jumping out of a plane with your partner and the vicar is another bizare way of getting hitched. Hope the old wedding insurance cover is in place!

At The End Of A Rope

French bungee jump couple Christine and Stephane Rosetti tied the knot whilst being tied to the end of a bungee line.

Underwater Weddings

You've probably seen footage of several couples getting married in fish tanks, in swimming pools and in full diving suits under the waves of some far flung ocean.

In A Phone Box

A Norwegian couple, Frode Stromo and Grete Myrslett, who met via a text message, got married in a phone booth.

In all of these cases I think that you have to feel just a little sorry for the vicar!

Feel free to comment if you know of any other weird weddings.

When One Marriage Isn't Enough

I presume that you to-be weds reading this are only planning on getting married just the once?

Well once is nowhere near enough for some. The Telegraph reports that a Georgia Minister, Bishop Anthony Owens (35) who served two years in prison on bigamy charges for having eight wives has been arrested over accusations of trying to marry at least four more! Officials say there is no evidence that he divorced the previous eight.

Dear me!

Eco Friendly Weddings

The Church of England has published a new guide to encourage to-be weds to reject the extravagant culture surrounding weddings and to embrace a more simplistic approach.

The Making The Most of Weddings publication offers suggestions to curtail both the financial expenditure and the environmental impact of a wedding. Suggestions include:
  • fair-trades material could be used to make the dress
  • buy a second-hand dress from a charity shop, to be returned after the day
  • organic food to be served at the reception
  • guests to bring a bottle
  • gift list to be in association with a charity
Whilst some of these suggestions and others might not have popular appeal, bare in mind that recent figures estimate that the average cost of a UK wedding is about £17,000!
